This sounds like you have a conflict in your drivers. Left Click on Start/ Right Click on My Computer/ Left Click Properties/ click on Hardware/ Left click on Device Managers.

If you see any little triangles with exclamation points inside the yellow sign you have driver conflicts and need to do one of two things.

Delete the lines which have the little signs and Restart your computer.
Try your sound functions again and if nothing comes out of your speakers.
Go through the first steps again and see if the little yellow tags are back. If not then Right click on the line, Sound, video, and Game controllers and select from the menu "Scan for Hardware Changes."

If that doesn't fix it Update or Reinstall the correct drivers for your Sound card.

type in run without the quotes 'sndvol32' do your sound manager come up, if they do push all the sliders to the top.

if they dont then you need the driver for the WDM goto

http://driverguide.com and download the drivers for AC97 Realtek look for it in the search engine on there download one that as been downloaded a lot of times

by the way make your your plugs are in the right holes very easy to put them wrong way round

its not broken u gotta install/reinstall ur sound card.....speakers DONT break so easily as u think, unless u punched the speaker in.
go to my computer, right click then go properties, then go hardware, then go device manager, then look for sounds, video controllers and so on..., then check if its been disabled. if not just try reinstalling.

Go to Control Panel, System icon, Device Manager button and check the list for any !, ? or x symbols on your devices.

! means theres hardware conflicts. ? means theres missing files (drivers) that run the device. And x means that device is disabled.
