Yes I do think it was unfair to put those Beautiful dogs in such a dangerous situation, But it is sad that animals don't have a say, That is why there are the beautiful people in this world who will speak for them. I Love all animals, Dogs are the greatest because they will protect you and die for you without blinking an eye. Humans are not even that loyal. and yes they could have put the dog coats on them, knowing that the weather was sooo cold.

There is such a thing as dog sweaters/ coats.
Hmm...I don't know if it's necessarily cruel. I mean that the people didn't intend on getting stuck up there. Labs are actually pretty good for weather like Ohio where I live. Very popular outside dogs over here.
However, it all depends on where it lives. If you put a dog from Florida on there it won't last long.
Since she was with an actual climber I imagine she her owner watched her health closely. Rescue, and other working dogs are constantly being checked to see if they are fit to work.
I'm sure if it is animal cruelty PETA or, some other organization will try to declare it on the news, or something.

I think you may be worrying unduly. The name labrador refers to Labrador in Canada where typical temperatures are -10 to -15C.So they can cope with the cold. When I was a kid our labrador Ben used to sleep outside in his kennel all winter and was quite happy. If he was'nt he'd have been whining at the back door instead of running about the garden looking for rats and things.
I am sure the rescue dog will have been acclimatised and well fed and as far as a dangerous situation goes well it is only the humans that are really at risk from exposure.Even if he was on his own in a white out his nose would point the way back.
Interestingly enough, the colder it is the better they can follow a scent.
Glad you care about annimals though!

In their defense the hike wasn't supposed to land them in blizzard conditions overnight. Labs can handle cold fairly well and are used as rescue dogs most often. There was a rumor floating around the reason she was there was in case anyone became separated from the group. Honestly i wouldn't take my pet up on a mountain with me if there was a chance that we could get stuck, but the dog would have a better chance at surviving the cold than any human, whether they had layers of clothes on or not. They did give her shelter though...she stayed with them in the sleeping equipment to keep her out of the wind. And unless a dog is shaved for some reason, doggie coats do more harm than good. A dog's fur is insulated for the cold already and they can become easily overheated in the coats which could lead to them getting sick. Kinda like if you went out shoveling snow in a large coat when it was forty-five degrees outside already (that's happening up here). You get overheated quicker and feel drained of energy when you are back in normal conditions. For the situation, it sounds like they did everything possible to keep her as safe as them.

No because as long as a lab is with people and part of a group she will be happy to serve that group, that is the way with labradors. Also think where the breed originated - Labrador as their name suggests.
Animal cruelty is locking them away without human contact /or food or water you are being a bit precious if you think cruelty is letting them work for a living

The dog is trained for this so its not cruelty but i do think its stupidity for people to climb in those conditions knowing that they'l probably get into trouble. When people go out like this its putting other peoples lives at risk when they need rescuing & by the sound of it they knew they would probably get into trouble.Maybe if they were charged for the rescue it would make them think twice about risking there own & other peoples lives.

No because lab. r meant to be in very cold situations because they were meant to be able to go swimming in the ocean when its cold out to retrieve like ducks or fishing nets. Also it looks like it could be bread from lile a german shepard or something and they can endure alot to. Mu chocolate lab goes hunting with us all the time in fall and hes fine and healthy. Just research lab. on the internet and you'll learn how tough they r to extreme conditions. And if the owners knew the dog couldn't handle it do u really think they would have brought it??

I am sure I have seen a similar question from you before....regarding cruelty to dogs. Whilst cruelty to any animal is wrong, you seem to be placing animals in greater importance to humans. The cruelty you are protesting about is rather mild in comparison to the the extreme cruelty I have witnessed in the media; bearing this in mind, I do not think that your protest is justified.

1. Look up where Labradors originated.
2. She was the climber's dog. Rescue handlers have more sense.

I don't see the point of taking the dog but I am sure if there was any negligence it would of been addressed at that time as it seems that it was a high profile case.
