YES we did as a group class read, and watched the programme.
LORD OF THE FLIES was another and this should be reintroduced into the curriculum as there is a valuable lesson to be learnt in that film

Certainly had an effect in S.W. Birmingham, the smelly, untidy kids at school were called 'stigs'. Haven't heard the word used like that elsewhere.

I absolutely loved this book. My teacher read it at infants' school and I nagged and nagged my gran until she got me it - I wanted nothing else for my birthday. Of course - this is teh first story she tells any girls I ever take round to meet her; that and the time when I got lost on teh market and told everybody I was called Paddy Murphy (from Camberwick Green)!
Thanks for bringing back my childhood memories - I think I still have this book somewhere - I'll have to see if I can find it for my lad!

Yes I read it when I was quite young. It was written by Clive King and I think they made a TV cartoon series out of it, but I was a lot older then so didn't watch that.

Yeah i loved it too. The Author was Clive King and I expect you can still get it at all good bookshops or amazon. It is still popular , my daughter's class have been doing a project on it recently.

It is a classic i read it as a kid it was ace. Its by Clive King you can get it on the net and should be able to get it in children's libraries. If not you should tell them off and to get it in because it should be in every library as it was so groovy.

I did, and I loved it, can't remember the author, but if you go to a good bookshop, like Waterstones or Blackwells, they would look it up for you, or try your local library to find out the details then order it.
