Yes. If the child is under arrest then they have the right to a parent or attorney present, but if the child is being questioned as a witness, victim, or even 'informally' as a suspect (i.e. they're not under arrest), then it's perfectly legal for the police to talk to them without a parent present. If the children were under arrest then the police could still question them all they want, but nothing they said would be admissible in court since only the child's parent or guardian, and not the child himself, can waive his right to have an attorney present.

Yes it is legal. It is done all the time. My son was arrested for questioning because the police wanted to question him and fingerprint regarding a series of crimes that had been committed in our neighborhood. I was at the time, working and got a call from the police telling me my son had been arrested; he was 14. By the time I got there, he had been fingerprinted, photographed, and questioned. By the time I got in touch with an attorney it had already been done. The attorney told me if they detained him, then he would intervene. They released him to me after I got there. My son told them he was not involved and told me he was glad they fingerprinted him because that would prove he wasn't.

I bet they do more than just strip search, and were each one searched separately away from the others? Was it a male doing the searching and were there more than one officer present when it happened?

No that is not legal. consult with an attorney right away they are violating the law, and the evidence they got if any could be suppressed because it was obtained illegally.
