The only reason I am asking is because I don't see the point of it. And Yeah I am sure that they already tested me for it when they did the blood test.

You must be having other symptoms which would have made your Dr. want to do the tests in the first place. A good Dr. would read a thyroid test that came back on the low range of normal as a possible problem. That may be the reason for sending you to a specialist. Also, if your symptoms point to endocrine problems there are many other tests to be run and an Endocrinologist (I assume that is who you will be seeing) knows which tests are best to run and how to read the results. Good luck.

Perhaps he felt your thyroid gland and on examination found it to be enlarged. Your blood work could have been in normal range, but borderline. The test doctors usually do is a TSH. Unfortunately sometimes this test does not catch an underactive thyroid the first time its tested. That's because its influenced by the time of day of the test. Always test thyroid first thing in the morning.

If I were you, I'd call up the doctor's office and find out what the TSH was and what are the numbers of any other test that was done. AAACE changed the normal range of TSH in 2003 to 0.3 to 3.0, however most labs still have the range at 0.3 to 5.5. You could have the TSH at a 4.5 and your doctor may think its normal, but on the high side based on the old normal ranges.
