What can you do if refused an American passport because of lack of documentation (like an amended birth certificate) and cannot obtain substitute information (as shown in the passport requirements?) My age of 65 is the problem. My parents are deceased as well as others who may vouch for me -- no baptismal certificate as an infant -- no Family Bible (burned up), no elementary school records available, etc. The ONLY thing I have is an amended birth certificate with my name change.

Do you not have a certificate of birth in a county courthouse? They hold certified birth certificates. 65 is not that old so unless you are from a third world country your birth certificate should be in some courthouse in a county and just ask them for a certified birth certificate. why is it ammended?are you adopted? Still my adopted son was able to get a passport with his certificate of live birth.
