if there is any blood you should go to the hospital. I would go anyway to be sure that he does not have a concusion. Don't think bad of it, doctors won't. They see it all the time. Kids always bang their heads. They are very top heavy and becuase of this, they get banged. It is normal

make sure if it swells it swells outward (creates a bump) instead of inward (creates a sunken in look). If is swells inward, there is a major problem and you need to go to the er right away. If it swells outward, then put an ice pack on it for about 5 minutes. Do not let him go to sleep for atleast an hour. If he seems lethargic or dizzy (eyes rolling in his head) take him to the er immediately. I know keeping a 6 month old awake is not an easy thing to do, but if he sleeps you never know if he's actually sleeping or if something worse.

Our daughter fell off the couch and banged her head at 3 months and my husband and I were in sheer panic. It turned out to be okay, but it was really scary at the time. We called the doctor straightaway thinking they were going to tell us to dial 911 immediately! But they were very relaxed and said this was the first of many head bumps in a child's life. They told me to watch her pupils and make sure they matched eachother (ie one wasn't bigger than the other) and to make sure she didn't sleep longer than 2 hours at a time for 48 hours to make sure she was responsive. Also, they said if she didn't vomit, she was fine, as vomiting is a sign of concussion. I hope this helps! :o)

Keep a careful eye on him for 24 hours. If anything seems unusual (drowsy, limp, anything "odd") then straight to hospital.

My son does this all the time and sometimes hard...just make sure he's ok and as long as he doesn't get kind of sleepy or listless then he's probably ok.
