The part that makes it tough is when your young and new and all this pressure is on you because everybody's watching you to see what you can do. Now mix it in with grass-drills (aka up and downs?!?) and sprints at the end of practice. For the players who give 100% during practice, then have to run sprints, it is the toughest but the best payoff. Dont forget camp, practice 3 times a day during the summer for a whole week.

105 degree weather, full pads. I was middle linebacker, tight end and one of our team captains. 6'1", 210 lbs. and ran a 4.5 40 yard dash. The coaches always put me against our starting fullback and center. Things got pretty brutal. Then for conditioning we would run 100 yd sprints. If anyone jumped, we would have to bearcrawl the full 100 yds. Sometimes we ran the gauntlet, where everybody would grab a bag and you'd have to hit every one as hard as you could. Never threw up though. Not till I got to junior college in the 2-a-days.

i remember once it was like 30 degrees outside and raining and we were running in mud, ups and downs, and us receivers had to still run routes even though we could barely see anything. I'm guessing you are trying out for HS football? Well, you better start doing some cardio and lifting some weights for what you will see.

Well 15 degree weather, torrental rain, Updowns in the mud, low crawling and gators for at least 400 yards each, running 6 miles, pushing the sleds with 600 lbs on it(over rocky uneven terrain) for about 2 miles, and getting in more trouble for the jackass who decided to cut class or show up late. But blowing out a team 35-0 at half time and forcing them to quit due to injuries(broken collar bones, ribs, arms, concusions, and brused organs) is all worth it. We even trained with the military, and it was easy.

Two a Days...in August. Hazy and Hot. Running and Conditioning in Full Pads make you want to die, but the team that conditions the best typically delivers the knock out in the 4th qrt. Love em Now...Hated them then.

We had lost our first 6 games (tied one that year) and the Coach just got tired....we ended up having our own "Junction Boys" story...he wanted to find out who the men and boys were......we were actually just boys when you think about it....so he "grass drilled" us for close to an hour with full pads in the Texas heat of something like 90+.....no water!.......then lined us up for wind sprints from goal to goal (120 yards)......we ran 20......the first day something like 10 "boys" quit....the next day.....he says line up......4 to 5 walked back in.....we started that season with 40 plus on the team and finished with 16 total.....all of the ones that you thought would never quit......quit!......the ones that you thought would never make it made it.......we were 0-9-1 that season......he got reprimanded for his language and was gone the next year......the ones that quit never came back!.....never will forget it....especially some of my buddies as the walked away when they quit.....no hate or anomosity toward them.....just sorrow after playing with them for so many years and the hurt they must have felt!!......this happened close to 45 years ago....but if he (the Coach) was here right now I would kick his #%!*!!!!

about 25 degrees...snowing.....up downs... like 80 push ups....100 yard ladder....never been that tired in my life but you love your coach for doing it to you when your still as energetic in the 4th quarter as you were in the first....and the 4th is the quarter that counts the most
