Lost count how many times I managed to do that.
One time, I had it locked in my car and I used the plastic that binds cardbord boxes down. Folded it, slipped it between the door, Push one of the folded end so I get a sort of loop. Move down the plastic and get it around the lock button. Tighten the grip and pulled it up. (Make sure your car does not have an alarm.)
It takes time and effort (it took me 1/2 hour with 4-5 trials and errors). Most of the officers will tell you they will be willing to smash through the window ( there was one near me when I was using this technique).

A locksmith service can be somewhat pricey
but when compared to the smashing of a window
it is considerably cheaper to get the "lock dude" busy !!
Replacing a window on certain vehicles can be extremely expensive and then there's the thing of having the security of the auto standing breeched UNTIL this replacement is done
Call the locksmith---- once he (or she) gets there--- it's usually no more than 15 minutes--- and your done and out of there !! Everything just like it should be !!!

You have not said what car it is so I will give you an easy solution if it has a button on the inside using the plastic band you get on a package fold it bite to form a crease. Push it through the gap at the front pillar near the windscreen slide it right over to the button. Push one end of the band until the loop goes over the button pull tight. Then sharply pull up
Dont try to push it through were the lock is there is a step. The band is sometimes used to bundle news papers.

get a thin wire make a loop at one end kinda like a circle thred it through the side of the window or the door, if you have the old fashion lock where it sticks out and you have to pull it up to open. If you do have one of those , thred like I mentioned above then try and get the loop on the lock bit and pull up you will be able to open the door then. but if your lock is on the side of the door then there is no other way you can open it. You might have to then call the lock smith.

If your car has a button you can use a piece of strong wire (stronger than a coat hanger and make a U shape!
You then insert it between the glass and the rubber seal lowering it to position one side of the U under where the button is then just gently feel for contact with the bottom of the button and pull it up!
Or you can use the plastic strapping used to wrap pallets and fold it in half!
Push it between your door and the push just one side of the plastic strap which will make it turn!
Lower it over the button and pull tight then up!

A locksmith is much cheaper than smashing a window. I keep an extra key in my wallet.

Call AAA or any tow truck. They have whats called a "slim jim" and it goes down along side the window. Where they release the door lock. Good Luck.

well i like to be prepared for this because I do it all the time. I hide a magnet key on the outside of my car somewhere. (=
Hope theives wont find it, but I doubt theyd look for it unless they saw ya. Although I live in a remote area so I just leave the key's in my ignition most of the time ha.

if you don't feel like calling a locksmith you could use a coat hanger and stick it down your window, which is what the locksmith will do, or if your car is older and has a flat keyhole you could use a tennis ball, by putting a hole in it and putting the hole over your keyhole and shoving, and the air being pushed out will push your door lock up.

Well... if you lock button is in view.. or easily done.. gently pull the window away from the vehicle (not easy).. slip in a coat hanger and try to press the button / pull the knob.
