There is not a lot you can do unless your community actually follows up on reports of drunk drivers. You would have to have a real documented situation and offense going on in real time. See if there is a chapter of a citizens-against-drunk-driving group and call them. Or, slam on your brakes in front of his car so he hits you and the cops have to be called.

He drinks and drives on a regular basis? There is no ambiguity here. You must confront him. He is a ticking time bomb and it is only a matter of time before he hurts himself or someone else.
He will likely deny there is a problem and say he can handle drinking and driving. That is untrue. All drunk drivers say the same thing until it is too late.
You need to play hardball here and enlist the help of friends if necessary. Do not let him drink and drive. Take his keys if need be. Do whatever it takes. Heck, call the police if you thought it was necessary.
Look at it this way. If you dont want to lose this friend of yours to an horrific accident then you owe it yourself to act.
I vehemently disagree with the posters who say not to do anything or that you are powerless to act. That is simply bad advice. A true friend would not sit idly by while a friend was putting his life in danger. Only a true friend would do something about this.

Well if he is doing this on a regular basis then he is an accident waiting to happen or looking for a place to happen. You can do nothing and hope he doesn't have an accident and if he does hope he doesn't kill someone. Or you can talk to his family or friends of his. OR you can actually call the police and let them know. BUT If you talk to someone in his family or to one of his friends then I would NOT call the police as they would now know who called and they most likely would NOT like you anymore. Or you could just call the police. But if you do nothing and he kills someone then YOU are going to have to LIVE with this the rest of your life. Your choice. Good Luck, I'm sure you will do the right thing.

He is endangering lives, you know how many people get killed from drunk drivers? A lot do, and most the time the drunk don't get hurt themself, they will just end up killing some innocent person. You need to talk to his person and tell them to stop it, if they don't then next time you know they are out drinking and driving call the police and make a report of a possible DUI. Good luck!

If he is someone you care about, an intervention would probably be your best bet. If not, you don't really have a legal alternative. He can't be found guilty of crime, as "does it on a regular basis" is not specific enough. Further, you'll never meet the foundational requirements. No civil action because you don't have standing.
The only thing you could do is wait until he's about to do it again, and call the police.

You should not stay out of it. The problem is that the police have to catch him when he is driving drunk. Get his license plate number and a description of his car. Call the police when you know he is DUI and tell them where you think he is.

No you are a good citizen, go to a police office and give them the info on your person, his discription of his car where he hangs out and drinks license plate # and his name. You are doing a lot o f people a favor including your friend. I am grateful to people who are willing to stand up and do the right thing. What if he drove out tonight and killed your sister or your mom?

Very good question~ I honestly don't know what to tell you. I think it depends on how close you are to this person. Like you said it does put other people's lives in danger so it's not like you can just stay quiet.
Good Luck~
