Chihuahuas are the best (said with a lot of bias) I own 2. Phoebe turned 7 on Valentine's Day, and Peanut turned 5 on Dec.18th. I have had a Ziggy, a Hugo, a Zoe, and a Moose, he was Peanut's dad. If you are planning on de-sexing your little one, then really it is up to you which you choose. They come in every dog colour there is, so that may influence your choice. Chihuahuas are in your arms a lot, so if you don't want their little P***s in your hand, then I would opt for a girl. If you do not spay or neuter, then you will have a male that is "marking everything" literally, and a female that will go in heat every 5-7 months, although the stains from her are minimal on account of their diminutive size, it is still a stain regardless. They both have incredible personalities, and before too long, you will find yourself buying clothes and blankets, huge dog food and water bowls because it looks soooo funny, and those humoungous raw-hide bones at Christmas. The only thing I will caution you about is their fontanelle, a lot of people don't know about this, it is the soft spot, much like a newborn baby's on their head, Peanut has one, Phoebe doesn't. Just mentioning it because, they forget that they weigh under 6 lbs, and they think they are bull mastiffs that will play with any dog, or try to bite it into submission, and it is easy for a bigger more aggressive dog to put a tooth through it. Tonka is adorable, and so is Pebbles!

I love Chihuahuas. It doesn't matter what sex they are, as long as you have them fixed. Your Chi will love you until you're begging for mercy. Go straight to the vet, and they can schedule the spay/neuter on your first visit.
Chihuahuas are pack dogs. They are one of the few naturally occurring, wild dogs in the world left. They are found in (surprise!) the Chihuahua province of Mexico, and some parts south. Of course this doesn't mean your breeder went and scooped them up from Mexico, but it's fascinating just the same.
Some recent study found that Chihuahuas evolved to be soo cute, with their baby faces, that humans would feed and watch over them, and eventually domesticate them. In fact if the Chi was not the first domesticated dog in the world, they were DARN close.
You should really have the dog for a few days and see her personality and markings first hand, before you name her. You don't name the baby before she's born, do you?
But my favorite male name for a Chi is Hector, and my favorite female name is Maya, after the ancient Mexican Mayan culture that first domesticated these cute little silly wild dogs.
Hope I didn't bore you. Have fun!
P.S. start practicing how to sweep your feet across the ground as you walk, and looking where you sit. Your Chi will ALWAYS be underfoot.

I would suggest making the call (male/female) after meeting the breeder and the puppies. A good, reputable breeder should be familiar with the puppies' temperments and can suggest which would be best for you. As for the names, it's your decision, though once you get the puppy it can easily change. But personally, I like Ginger or Tonka. They're both really cute.

I would meet the breeder and then decide. Just choose the one you fall in love with right away weather it be male or female. If you want a girl because people say they hump alot well here is a little info for you females can hump also and and the also are in heat which means they can bleed too. Its just up to you I have a male and a female and there names are Lily and Pancho. Here are a few names for you.Female-Daisy,Lola Male- rolee.

I would get a female, only because they don't have the behavioral issues like the males (humping, marking territory etc.). Either sex would be loving and affectionate. In my experience, some male dogs are more affectionate than females. I think the female would love more, but be less affectionate.
Girl names: Pebbles.
Boy names: Odie.
I really suggest waiting until you get the puppy, then name him/her according to their personality. It took us almost 4 months to decide on a lifelong name for our [deceased] Dalmatian. Remember that you don't have to have a name ready and decided on before you get the puppy.

Actually the names you like best were the ones I would say.. and two of my cousins have chihuahuas.. one has a girl and one has a boy.. and the boy is much more loyal than the female.. he is also more active.. it could just be how they are and have nothing to do with genders... but if that helps you any .. good luck!!!
