I had sex on September 6 and took a pregnancy test on September 16 that came back positive. I was wanting to know if there was any chance I got pregnant and had a postive result so quick. I had had sex during the last week of August and I am thinking that is when I got pregnant because if it would have been on the 6th then that would have only gave me approx. 10 days to be producing enough hormones to show up in a pregnancy test.

How soon can I test? Well, first you gotta know how the test works. Briefly: the home pregnancy test (HPT) works by detecting a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG.) When an egg is fertilized, it takes about 6 to 12 days to implant in the uterus, and then it begins to secrete hCG. It takes another day or two for enough hCG to build up and make its way into your pee. So, generally speaking, the earliest you can expect a positive HPT is 8 days past ovulation ("DPO") and the latest would be about 16 DPO. It is possible to get a positive test earlier or later, but not as common. In my experience, if you use a sensitive "early" test (anything that detects 25 mIU/mL of hCG or less) you can test around 12-14 DPO and feel reasonably secure with your results (the later you test, the more secure you can feel in its accuracy.)
If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

When was your LMP? If you concieved on Sept 6th for sure, your last menstrual would have been around Oct 31. Week 3 would be about Sept 13th, and your missed period would have been around Sept 20th. So four days before your missed period you could possibly have a positive pregnancy test. If you had sex the last week of Aug, say Aug 25th, then your Last menstrual would have been Aug 18th. You would have concieved Sept 1, implantation would have occured Sept 8th, your missed period would have occured Sept 15th. I would say both can fit, but September 6th would be pretty close to the time of conception. The days are so close though that it could be either of them. I took my pregnancy test a week before my missed period and it was positive (that is not very usual) and some people show positive 4 days before missed period. Most people who calculate ovulatation tend to calculate wrong because they calculate after their missed period. You actually count the day of the start of your period as day one to day fourteen and that is ovulation and conception date. I only know this because of fertility doctor and lots and lots of trying.

chances are you got pregnant at the end of august. Getting pregnant on sept 6 and testing on the 16th seems really early to show up on a hpt.

No you probably got pregnant before September 6th. I bet it was from the end of August.

Well obviously the answer is yes that it could. The test didn't lie if you are...you've had since Sept. to figure it out!!!
