Forget these jokers who are telling you to quit the game. They may think they are experts at basketball, but they were ball bumbling little newbs once upon a time, as well.
Work on your confidence in the game. Go out by yourself and shoot, work on dribbling, work on lay ups. Work on all the basics. If noone is around, work on passing the ball against a wall.
The best thing you can do to get better in games with other people is to play in them! Accept that you're learning (regardless of what others say) and keep on trying. When I play with a new person, I try hard to stay patient with them as long as they are trying to play right and not just horsing around.
Stick with it, and keep practicing. Play against those who are better than you at the game and you'll get better. Forget about jokers who say you should quit. They just need to feel more secure in their own perceived basketball greatness.

A lot of people have a hard time due to consentrating on the ball too much. I would suggest that if you want to get better you start practicing on your spare time. One of the most important thing is being able to dribble without having to look at the ball. Practice dribbling while looking up. While you are dribbling start saying out loud what you are seeing. this will help you focus on what is going on around you and not the ball.
Good Luck, Practice- Practice- Practice.

Play with brightly colored shirts, so that you know who is on your team. Also, don't start out with the whole 10 people on the court. Start with 4 or 6 total to get used to the rules and concepts of the game, and then when you are more familiar, add more players. Just don't forget to dribble.

Play more and quit thinking about the game... just let it come naturally... don't be scared to do w/e u feel like doing... play under control but just try different things... When you find out what you are good at practice that and then broaden your range... you'll find it...

you should stick with it and practice really hard...before games focus and concentrate. don't let anything or anyone distract you. always do your best and no matter what...always hustle...and in a few years if you're still having the same problems then maybe basketball is for you! good luck!
