I suppose it is peer pressure - but I think more of it because girls want to feel a connection and boys want the notch in the belt.
I am married with children and I have to say that waiting is well worth it!

Compare it to smoking. Why oh WHY does smoking keep perpetuating itself in generation after generation? Peer pressure and it feels good.
Some people take pride in being a virgin, but most people consider them to be losers. Mostly with guys. So they push the subject and some girls give in.

If the teen is really strong in the head and doesn't want to - they won't.
I didn't because that is what I decided.
Not every highschool graduate has lost their virginity.
But also, losing your virginity doesn't always mean you can't get your goal.
