I never put on weight when I was on bc... although...when I was 30 (3 years ago) I had a stroke from being on the pill. I do not smoke, I do not have high cholesterol, and I am not overweight... Please be cautious when deciding to go on the pill...

Some birth control can cause weight gain, but if you maintain a healthy and active life style, that WONT happen, and even if it does, its about 1/2 a pound a yr. NOT ALOT AT ALL! Stay away from depoprovera, its got some major bad side effects. My friends and I started taking it when we were 17, all at the same time, all 4 of us. We stopped when we were between the ages of 20-26 and NONE OF US CAN HAVE CHILDREN NOW! I know personally, I have been trying for 4 years with no luck. So stay away from that. Contact Planned Parenthood for info on what is a good choice for you. Also be wary of many Loestrin BC pills, they may not protect you against pregnancy very well, only about 70% or so.

I take Kariva, and I had no bad side effects of this. The good side effects are that my period is now regular and light.
For putting on weight, it depends on how a person reacts to it. Some people may lose, some people may gain, some people might stay the same weight.

I was on Ortho-tricyclen (sp?) for a couple months but it made me throw up every time I took it so I switched to Alesse and it was great, I didn't really get sick or gain weight... my boobs actually went from a 32C to a 36D..don't know if that had anything to do with the BC or not... I was on it for almost 6 years...none now cuz we are trying to get preg!

Yasmin, it is the only one I have ever taken with zero side effects. I have not put on any weight with it at all.
