okay..so...i like to listen to music loud, and play alto sax a lot in my room, and my mom thinks its waaaayyyy too loud (her room is directly above mine) so right now, i can only turn my speakers up when she's not at home, because the bass from the songs i like to listen to are really annoying to her.. -_-

and..the walls around my house are really cheap and dont block any sound. (a conversation in any part of the house can be heard from my room)

so..yea..i was wondering if there was some way i could change my room so that it would be slightly more "sound proof".
I was thinking about putting up towels all around my room on the walls, but i'm not sure if that would work..

(any ideas?)

There are actual sound proofing wall products that you can buy, but they get expensive (I've put a few links below). Lesson rooms at music stores sometimes use empty egg cartons to help dampen sound.

Well, to be honest, it's almost a losing situation with you. You could try hanging curtains all around your room, which would make it more acoustic, but not soundproof. If you think about it..you'll see that they hang curtains in movie theatres.....this makes it more acoustic and helps eliminate any echo. It will make it sound better in your room, but like I said, it won't make it soundproof. In order for you to better soundproof your room, you'd have to take down the walls, put all kinds of insulation in the walls and the ceiling....line that with plastic, add a second door to your room, insulate and board up your windows.....and still after all that, I'm sure the bass would still leak out. So go with the curtain thing....it'll help when you practice on your sax, then when you really want to jam.....then put on headphones. This way, your mom won't hear the bass. Best of luck to you.

To really make your room soundproof it's going to take a bunch of money and labor. A few towels won't help a bit.

A better way would be to purchase a little practice sound-proof booth and install it in your room. But it's pretty expensive. http://www.whisperroom.com/

Or an even better way is to get a mute for your saxophone. It works by completely enclosing your instrument and has two cut out holes for your hands. It's got electronics where you use headphones and play along with music and stuff. There's even a reverb option to make yourself think you sound better than you really do lol. I have it myself and it's great! It makes your saxophone about 80% quieter. All little pricey at $500, but how much is your mom's sanity worth? http://www.wwbw.com/e-Sax-Whisper-Mute-for-Alto-Saxophone-i617994.music

Lean mattresses against the walls.

Thick towels work too.

There is a super thick plastic sound proof curtain you can buy and hang - I think.

Tack carpet remnants to the ceiling.
