It's because they are. Remember that 'Everything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.' applies to the cops as well. So when they are speaking to reporters they KNOW that this tape could very well be used in court to help the defence of the very criminal they are trying to incarcerate.

Hope this helps!

No, it's not uncanny and yes they all HAVE to do it.

Know how when an architect files a final blueprint of what's going to get built? That becomes a legal document.

Open to public inspection should anything go wrong or can be prevented due to negligence of oversight.

Given what police do or do not do, they can be held liable in court for what they say.

They shouldn't be worried about going to court. When and if they get there they do really well - it appears that they can go onto a tube and execute an innocent young guy without any repercussions - some even get promoted. Obviously that approach is working like a charm for them!

Because they are. They know it is being taped and anything they say can be used in evidence at a later date and often is so they are trained in how to deal with the media.

Because they are on record - just like in court. And the "Court of Public Opinion" knows no bounds.

It's not about sports or the weather when they're talking to the media, it's usually something pertaining to police work. They talk like 'normal' people otherwise.
