Please keep in mind, the machine was designed by a woman. It is cold to touch. Let the technician position your breasts -she knows what to do. She will also tell you how to position your arms, hips , etc. She will do one breast, then the other. The compression of the breast is the uncomfortable part. And no, it doesn't matter what your breast size is. It is only for a couple of minutes, if that long for the compression. The technician told me that for the next time I get it done, (for anyone really), for the two weeks before, drink more water. Tylenol is good to take the day of, if you find your breasts tender or sore afterwards. You can take it before you get the mammo done if you would like. The whole process, probably takes about 15-20 minutes. Most of that time is being positioned for the mammo, very little for the actual mammo. I am glad that you are having this done. I have to get mine done each year, you will probably only have to have one every 2-3 yrs. I wish you the best. Take care.

I get one every year. I've never had pain. They aren't comfortable, but I wouldn't say they're painful. You can take an Advil and cut back on caffeine before yours. That should help.
People joke about how painful they are, I just don't think it's bad at all. The worst part of it for me is not getting to wear anti-persperant until it's over. I've never had any soreness afterwards at all. No problem. Don't worry.
If you do find it actually painful, then next time go to a different center to do it.

It's just uncomfortable, I Had to start early because of family history. I think it just the technician to does the exam. They can be either rough or more understand and gentle. But pain med is going a bit to far

unfortunately, yes, they can be quite painful. I have not had one but my mother and sister have and they say, though the test does not last long, it is quite painful and will leave your breasts sore. Taking some pain relief medicine before your visit to the doc is a good idea.
