I am sorry to tell you that the petition has now closed.Don.t worry though enough people have signed to make Tony sit back and look up.
He must be worried about the reaction as he has just sent an e-mail out to all who signed explaining his position.I got mine tonight.
he says it is still early stages , we need more debate and nothing is decided yet. However I do know that some local authorities are being encouraged ( by means of threatening to withdraw funding if they don't) to implement pilot schemes presumably to try to show it works.I wonder if we will get a repeat of the deliberate congestion we saw in London prior to the congestion charge so they could say it worked.
I think it shows a lack of imagination.Thee are loads of other things we could do to tackle congestion and spending £40M on consultants isn't the answer.
The guy who drafted the petition has some great ideas such as better designed junctions at bottlenecks, free school buses, tax breaks for working at home, better road design eg tunnels , improved public transport, staggered working hours and opening up more railways.

Well sadly, despite all the names of the noble on the petition,(who, btw, are now in Millbanks computers as subversives)road charging is going ahead, whatever we do.
This is all linked to that old sattelite that was launched by Europe a while back.Part of its remit was to log the journeys made by EU citizens by car.The EU decided to make the UK the pilot scheme for road tarrifs, and this was agreed by our esteemed Mps.Any rhetoric spouted by cheries little soldier is of the lowest intrinsic value to our nation, since our nameless, faceless masters in Brussels have decreed our fate. Can you dig it?

Don't be so silly.Have you not heard the government are going to make it an offence to drive a car, every time you get behind the wheel you must pay a fine. You can rob, rape be a kiddie fiddler, but heaven help you if you want to drive on our roads welcome to Guardian land

Bit late now.
But perhaps someone will put up another similar petition -
or one about something else that we could all sign.
We need to keep harassing the Compulsive Liar to cause him maximum embarassment.
