If you're trying to connect to the OBD-II connector under the dash on the driver's side (I'm assuming that's what you mean), BMW uses proprietary equipment (means dealer only) to access this for programming. You may be able to get a simple code reading from an auto shop or auto parts store, but if you wish to re-program any of the control modules in the car - it ain't gonna happen unless you have thousands of dollars in BMW equipment or are proficient at hacking...

Coding the car is not something BMW wants the owner to mess with.

What kind of computer (with what kind of Applications/Software on board) did you try to connect to this car? I hope you know that its not just any computer that can be connected. Be a little more specific, maybe even blog this issue (with some rich photos) on your Yahoo-360 page and provide the URL here at Yahoo Answers for us to get a better look at your situation. Theres no telling how much help you'll get.
