after the ford family gets smart and dumps matt millen as their GM, they will be fine...they have a good coach with a great defensive mind in rod marinelli, they have a great offensive mind in mike martz, and they have some talented players, all they need is a GM who knows a little something about being a GM and didn't come straight from the announcers booth to the front office

Millen isnt the biggest problem in Detroit. He has kept the Lions at the bottom but lets face it they have been horrible long before he arrived in town. Firing him would make us fans feel better but the reality is they wont do well until the Fords sell the team. They have won exactly 1 playoff game in the past 40 years so we cant blame Millen for everything (even though he will go down as the worst GM in the history of the NFL). For all the foolhearty folks that think the Lions may be close to turning it around name 5 players that play at even slightly above average for their given position. Roy Williams, Shaun Rogers (although he may be leaving...he is a team cancer), Ernie Sims. The special teams are pretty solid but the lack of talent is pretty blatent if you take the time to be honest and evaluate each guy on their true merits. The offensive line is horrendous, the linebacking (besides Sims) is every bit a horrendous as the offensive line, the DBs as a unit are bottom 3rd of the league and their second best receiver is a converted db who was cut by the Rams. Not exactly a lot to build on, forget the late season win they did the same thing the year before and the year before that. The Houston Texans have won more games in 5 years of existance than the Lions have won in the last 6 years...that isnt possible if they have the talent that people claim. They are a long ways form righting the ship and until the "FOR SALE" sign is put out by the Fords then there is little hope of seeing a decent team on the field in the future!

When they decide what kind of team they want to be. I think the best way to revitilize that franchise is creating an identity..offense or defense...then build off of that with some younger players and an established coach. Jon Kitna might need to leave too. I think if the Lions actually had an identity, other than being a laughing stock of a franchise, they could maybe win 8 games in a season. A star player on defense would help a ton too, perhaps Sims will be able to fill that role for the team. But if they're going to have a good season any time in the foreseeable future, maybe like 2009 at best...it'll take a few years to fix that team...it's kinda sad though really. I'm a Carolina fan...and our team has already been to a super bowl in their 9th season....where was Detroit this whole time? I kinda feel bad for them Lions...new stadium and everything, and still no good.

Ok, I'll be the only one to stick up for Millen. Even though the Lions' record over his tenure gives me no ammunition. I live in the region, and while all you lucky NFC fans at 1:00 pm on Sundays get an NFC East divisional battle, we get a Lion game to "enjoy".
What is killing the Lions, is the poor play of the offensive line. If they shore that up next year during free agency and the draft, do not be surprised if they improve next year. The talent on the team is actually better than when Millen got there, if you can believe that. A 9-7 record can be done in the NFC. Never hurts to dream.

Not until Matt Millen is no longer the general manager. So a winning season is at least 5 seasons away.

They will have a winning season in about two years. They are looking like they are getting a better team together. If they take a good qb in the draft it could be sooner. But you could see that they are already starting to have thier moments by what we saw during the Dallas game.

i wish no longer, i wish that the lions flow 0-sixteen, i recommend come on, first time ever that a team went winless, they could be in the history books in simple terms like the seventy two dolphins, different than the dolphins went sixteen- 0 and superbowl champs, the lions could be 0- sixteen, tolietbowl chumps, i wouls positioned on a blouse that say first time ever, 2008 detroit lions 0 - sixteen
