How hard is it to get into New York University? And if I don't have anything to put in my portfolio what do i do? I would like to major in film and television...but I have no portfolio. Any advice? Deadline is coming in about March or April. Thanks.

Very hard to get in! Tisch School of Arts is one of the best in the country, and an amazing portfolio is crucial. It is the one thing the school can look at and see your talent and potential.

Luckly, Tisch only requires that you submit one peice of creative work for your portfolio (10 minute film, storyboard, photographs, or dramatic/ creative writing sample). And you have plenty of time to create any of these things before April. But remember, the portfolios the school sees are some of the best peices of work in the country, so make sure your submission is excellent!

Just for you to get an idea- I am going to apply to Tisch for the graduate program for film and TV next year (and getting accepted is so hard, I would drop out of law school to attend!). For the graduate studies, the film submission has to be 30 minutes (or less) and I am going to start working on it now for the Decemeber 2007 deadline! That's how good it needs to be!

Getting accepted to NYU in general is really tought. But for film, it is extremely tough! You need to be one of the best candidates in the world. Yes, it is a world-renowned program for film! Truthfully, if you don't have something amazing to put in your portfilio, you may not even want to apply.

But you still have time!!!!!! Make something great!!!! And remember, you will also need top grades, top SAT scores, and impressive letters of recommendation. It all needs to be the best to get accepted. But you can do it. Start NOW!

And they have awesome film programs abroad during the summer. If you don't get in, or want to do something before school starts, you could do those (not very hard to get in) for the summer. If you need to reapply next year, you will have some amazing work for your portfolio and some great experience to put on your application. Plus it would be a great opportunity to study film at one of the best schools!
