I've been told by the cosmetic counter people that we should replaced the curler pad every 3 months and the entire curler 6-12 months 'cause the mechanics of the metal curler loose the function over time. Is this true?

yep its true as the rubber pads wear out and even from cleaning them they still lose their shape. You dont need to spend heaps, just replace with a good metal one from pharmacies only about 7-$10 its worth it or even try a heated eyelash wand, these give amazing lift but are slightly dearer.

There is no reason to throw it out. If taken care of and cleaned regularly it will last a extremely long time. This is just a load of BS to get you to spend more money.

I don't see why...as long as it's still working well for you then you don't need to replace it. I would just clean it with rubbing alcohol from time to time to keep it clean and sterile, and replace it only after it stops working.

If you have one that is working well, I don't see any reason to replace it. However, I would clean it regularly to prevent the spread of infection.
