Here's the situation.. My girlfriend was ticketed for speeding and failing to show proof of insurance. The car was impounded with insurance card in it. The car does have expired tags so I went to the DoT to renew but they told me I had to go to courthouse to fight no proof of insurance ticket 1st. I go to the courthouse and showed them reciepts and my insurance info (since there is loan out for car I have to have insurance :P) but they won't release ticket without my girlfriend showing proof of insurance that covers her. I then go to impound lot to see if I can at least get car but they need release form from police station. I go to pig house and they wont release until have current tags. This is an endless cycle that there is no starting point to correct. I don't know what I can do without a lawyer which I may not be able to afford. Any suggestions? I don't know how much more of this I can take....

My girlfriend doesn't have non-owners insurance, but regaurdless there is insurance on the car and nowhere does it mention included/excluded drivers.

Ok they are jerking you around.

Here is the problem... I am guessing your gf lives with you, right? If so, she has to be on your insurance.

BUT, and this is where they are wrong, they CAN NOT keep your car once you show it is insured as long as you have the UNINSURED drivers portion of insurance that most everybody does.

If they keep holding the car after you show them that, pay about 300 bucks and get you an attorney. I hate the freaking system that is scamming you like this. It's all about money.

Btw if you don;t have much money, the quick and easy fix is to have your gf added on to your insurance, get your car out then have her taken off.... just keep in mind she will have to show she doesn't live at your house to take her off... like have her change her drivers license to another address for awhile.

You can beat the no ins. in court but trust me, make sure she request an attorney. I;ve seen ppl lose their license for a year over this when they thought for sure they would win.

File a motion to release the vehicle with the Court that has jurisdiction over her ticket. This is best accomplished with an attorney, however.

I say get the lawyer b/c now they will be charging you storage fees on the car too. Some have charged as much as $65.00 per day! Does state law require her to have additional ins. to drive your car??
