Whenever I turn on my heater, a huge cloud of exhaust comes out of my car instead of just the normal amount.

Depending on how old you car is it might just be that it has to work harder to use the heater. However, the color of the cloud might be an indicator of what is wrong. If the could is white, then you have water in your engine somewhere. If the cloud is black or dark blue then your car is burning oil when the heater comes on.

I am also assuming when you say " a huge cloud of exhaust comes out of my car" that you are speaking of your tailpipe.

if your talking about coming out of the vents, then it might just be dust, but if its coming out the exhaust pipe then i would say its a leaking head gasket.if its steam coming out of your vents, then you got a heater core leaking.try this.get some bars-leak and put it in the radiator and see if it stops.its good stuff, cause i used it before, when that happened to me.

It might be dust, but check if there is a hose loose.
