Well, you could tilt your head sideways and pull on the top of your ear lobe (that straightens the canal). When you pull it shouldn't hurt so if you're hurting yourself, you're pulling too hard. :)

Also, be sure your ear is already clean. Could be some wax is preventing the water from exiting.

The main problem is that the surface tension of the water keeps it from exiting the ear canal. Most of the time it is just annoying, but it also increases the opportunity for otitis externa (external ear infection, swimmer's ear).

You can have a pharmacist mix up a solution of isopropyl alcohol + glycerin in a small bottle with an eardropper. Some people use a mix of the alcohol plus acetic acid (or white vinegar) in equal proportions. Very cheap, but you have to find an old enough pharmacist that knows the appropriate mixing ratio. Occasionally you can find generic mixes at the drugstore. Instill 1-2 drops in the ear. You'll feel it hit the water. Then turn ear down on a towel and it will run out.

The alcohol decreases the surface tension as well as inhibits bacterial growth.

The best is to do a 50/50 solution of rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. Fill up your ears with a dropper and let it run out. Another thing is to pinch your nose and try gently blowing out of it like you were trying to pop your ears in an airplane. You want to open your eustacian tubes so the fluid can drain off inside your ears.

Hi there...Through my many years of experience in to pool with the same problem...Try pinching your nose, covering up the nostrils and blow through them while tilting your head to the side of the ear blocked and jump a little. The pressure from the blocked air from your nostrils and the jumps should do the trick. Never failed. 3 jumps would do the trick. After that, you'll feel a warm sensation in the ear and thank God that it alrighty...

If you have water in your ears that won't come out, go to a Dr. The dr had to clean mine once and a big wax ball came out that had been holding in the water.

You need to have a habit of using Q-tip to clean your ears every day, after showering. When you ears are clean, water easily come in, it also easily come out.

It's such a lousy feeling.

Lean your head to one side
(the side of the ear with the water in it, of course)
and then : cotton buds work magic.
Let them absorb the water.

shake your head, Slant your head left while wiggling your finger around your ears - and then slant your head right and do the same thing. When slanting hold in position for sometime.
(This is not guaranteed to work!)
