Our college computer science department had seven faculty and three were women. They were terrific. We had lots of great women students. Anyone who thinks women cant do computers is dead wrong!

I don't, but then again I'm going to a technical college for an AAS in Computer Maintenance Technology. I'm also going in with 2-3 years experience. I can take apart and build a computer with no problem and I can install all the stuff needed to operate the computer.

I'm an computer engineering student doing a postgrad and during my undergraduate years, there were quite a number of women in computer science. I have noticed that girls tend to go for the higher level areas (i.e like software) rather than the nitty gritty stuff (like electronics).

Most girls who started off in electrical and electronic engineering or computer engineering eventually switch to computer science instead. Only a handful usually persist. Some girls do find problems in programming initially because they have trouble thinking in steps. However, they usually get the hand of it.

In the end, it probably has more to do with the lack of exposure of engineering to girls than ability. I know of guys who are worst at operating computers than girls.
