Agree or Disagree. Should smoking be banned in public areas? Why?

I am giving a speech on banning smoking in public areas and need opinions from other people. My research shows that by putting a ban out less people would be harmed from secondhand smoke.

I agree with Annie. I mean i personally think smoking is gross-it is basically paying to kill yourself and others. People walking by don't have to option whether or not to breathe in second-hand smoke. Also, people that have children and young babies or are pregnant walk by too- that can be very bad for their health. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against people that smoke, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I think that it would be beneficial to everyone's health if smoking was banned in public areas. Also, it may discourage some people from smoking.

Smoking should be banned in pubic places. While we know smoking and second hand smoke is bad for you, that is not my main reason. I have been around people who are smoking and are very considerate of others around them, a lot of time you don't even know they are smoking if you don't see it. Then there are the few, the one who make it bad on all the others. They don't care, will smoke anyplace, blow smoke in your face or toward you and if you don't like it, well to bad as they don't care. As usual, the few make it bad on everyone else.

It should definately be banned! Smokers all have the right to smoke but they do not have the right to impose thier filthy habit on others nor do they have the right to poison other people with it. How many times have you walked past someone is public who absolutely reeked like an ashtray?

it drives me nuts when i take my kids to the local market and you find your walking behind a person whos hanging a fag in their hand right infront of your babies buggy. the babies and kids in buggies are at the same height when someones hanging one down by their side. I also grew up in a house of smokers and hate the thought of kids having to grow up in the smoke. smoking should be banned altogether, beacause children don't have a say about breathing second hand smoke. the harm that is done is unknown, but to give an example when i lived at home i had asthma and since ive left home i don't!

i dont think we need a ban.I think most smokers are courteous to those who dont.I dont like all the discrimation i see going on here.If you mean plubic places like your home,a restaurant,a club,or other building then thats ok.If you meant like the park,campgrounds,or other outdoors places then no you dont have the right to say anything,thats gods air and you dont have anymore right to it than i do.why would you think you do?have you had your house tested for radon lately?
