You want to hit them from either the side or from behind, and just go low and wrap up the ankles.

You actually don't really tackle them by the legs, you tackle them by the thighs, by first squaring up your shoulder then thrusting your shoulder into their stomach and push as hard as you can with your feet to thrust and pick them up while doing this, at all the same time you must keep your head up at all times this is probably the most important thing to do without it you can break your neck and be paralyzed (yes this has happened before). It takes many years to combine this all and do it perfectly...

Dive for the legs and hold on tight ,but my question is why would you want to make a tackle like that .when you can give a hard hit.

1st of all you will want to keep your head up and eyes on the person you about to tackle than you rap up with a little force behind you!!!

squat down....stand on the balls of your feet....keep your hands to your side like you are about to draw pistols from holsters on your hips...keep your back straight...eyes OPEN....upon impact throw your hips forward as you draw your guns....hit those thigh pads...wrap your arms...pick the injured runner off the turf....run back to the huddle...and get ready to lay the smack down again...repeat as necessray...
