people don't feel good enough about themselves so they have to pick on people of a different race for them to feel superior

Because groups of people who don't interact regulary for some reason start hating on each other. It happens at my work all the time. Not with ethic groups, the marketing dept hates the research dept and the purchasing dept hate the shipping dept. Thank God the dept aren't divide ethnicly. It's cross cultural hatin'. Same thing use to happen to rival towns. Springfield hates Shelbyville (ie Simpsons). That why there use to be a kinship in a small town you had to see & talk to everyone everytime you went to the local store. But that's so long gone, now we all just aimlessly wonder though Walmart and Home Depot.

It could be summed-up this way... The understanding of racism as preference for one's own ethnic group (ethnocentrism), fear of foreigners (xenophobia), views against interracial relationships (miscegenation), and/or generalizations about a specific group of people (stereotype).
It will always be present. Very unfortunate.

Because the generations that lived during the time of segregation are still around and, sadly, they are still teaching future generations to hate.
