It is a blast. It is a very calm ride, so it is fun for most anyone to ride. If you are able to go early in the morning, the ride is usually very small, I walk right on a lot of the time. So, if you can go, that would definitely make it worth the wait.
You sit in an a seat, and they have the top of the seats so it looks like a hang glider. Once you a strapped in, the seats will begin to lift off the ground, so you are sitting there with your feet dangling. Then, as you move about, you will move from one side to the next as you move around whatever you are seeing. And yes, you can smell evergreen and oranges when you go over the different places. Sometimes the smells will linger a little, so you may smell them when you get on, or one smell may stick around after the next smell is blown in. It is really interesting.
If you can, try to get in the middle section in the first row. I have sat in many different areas on the ride, and this is by far the best place to sit, it really gives you the best and most realistic experience.
But to answer your question, I think it is worth the wait. It isn't a thrill ride, but I still think it is fun.

Isn't it the most awesome ride ever? I have been to Disney World 3 times since this ride has opened. Every time we go on Soarin' I am amazed that people actually applaud at the end of the ride. (I know I have every time I have ridden it).
We have been lucky and only once has a long wait, and that was the fault of the cast member that was allowing people to enter the ride. He held up the line for Fast Pass riders that were walking up the walkway. The Fast Pass doesn't mean they get immediate admission to the ride, just a shorter line. He (the cast member) should have allowed more people from the main line to enter more frequently.
Other than that , every experience I have ever had at Disney World was the absolute best! When I rode Soarin' for the first time, my cousin from California was riding next to me and gave me a "guided" tour of what we were seeing, so the experience was even more exciting.
I would go again, even if they told me all I could do was go on Soarin'. It is sooooo worth the trip!

Yeah, I love Soarin', too! I've been on it a couple times. This past August I had to wait in line for around two and a half hours. It was well worth the wait, though, and it's entertaining once you get up to the screens on the walls that ask questions and give trivia about world geography. My favorite part is the end when you see the fireworks at Disneyland and Tink flies across the screen. I recorded the whole thing on my cell phone... lol it kind of sucks, though, 'cause it's not of the best quality and it's in about 30 15-second video clips.
I can't wait to go back and ride it again!
