To create an ambiance and set the mood for their product lines.
I'm sure they did tons of research on what to expect from a dim lighted atmosphere before they decided to turn down the lights.
Maybe a cozy atmosphere will keep the shoppers there longer as they feel more at home.
I personally would become annoyed with not being able to see the colors in bright lights.
Or, maybe they are just trying to consume energy to help prevent global warming. Yeah, I highly doubt it too..:)

It's because they want to pressure you into buying their clothes. A dark environment and loud music makes you think faster. If you've ever been in Hollister, then you would know...

So you cannot see the clothes or the prices! You cannot look at the clothes until after you buy them. By the time you actually see them then it is too late to return them unless you want to go through a whole 10 minute prosess. Nahh I like their clothes they are just way too expensive. Its mostly for the mood of the store.

So you don't realize you are spending an arm and a leg on clothes that are paper thin, and not that cool.
Also, they play the music really loud so you can't talk your friends out of buying that crap.

Yes. I question that. I really hate it. You can't see the clothes very well. Also, I always feel so cramped in there. I love the enviroment in american eagle. But that's just me. Shop wherever u want.

So that you can't see that what you're buying is going to fall apart in less than 24 hours and also so that everything looks smaller than it actually is.
