The diver can get into trouble if they change depth drastically while holding their breath, but any proper training program will educate them about this danger. Besides, this will become painful if they try it too long, so you don't hear of this happening very often.

because they don't have much compressable gas inside.. unlike our lungs.. and the oxygen in our blood.. they're made up of water and mostly soft tissue.. they've also evolved to live at those pressures.. i'm sure if some fish that lived at the bottom of the ocean surfaced, they'd probabl die
