I was told that the dye in any color of tape will wear out the palms faster than white tape, but I have a hard time believing it.

In my experience, if you limit how much sweat ends up in your gloves by wearing wristbands, the palms last MUCH longer. I had two identical pairs of gloves, and the palms in 1 shredded after a little over a year, and the other pair is now 4 years old and is just starting to shred, because I started wearing those terrycloth wristbands. Also gives you something to wipe your face on if you don't have a towel.

It is true but it only makes an affect if you are a very hardcore hockey player... the dye has something to do with is... black on the bottom, white on the top. It doesnt really matter unless your playing with really expensive gloves, you'll probably tear it somewhere else before the palms wear out

It has more to do with the quality of the tape rather than the color. A more coarse, abrasive tape will wear away the leather on the gloves faster than a smoother tape, but at the same time a smoother tape defeats the purpose of using tape at all!

specific, it is real. purple tape has been properly-known to reason the comparable situation. This become a difficulty-loose situation in the 50s and 60s whilst the dyes in tape have been better and extra chemically reactive, and the leather-based in the gloves wasn't as fantastically taken care of and extra liable to degradation. i become under the impact that those issues have been much less in all threat with cutting-element hockey tape, and cutting-element kit.

No the rumour is not true. Hockey tape is all made from the same materials no matter what colour the dye in it. Where do you guys get such weird ideas?

no, its just usually the palm of hockey gloves is light colored pig skin, so the black tape just leaves marks on the gloves, White tape does to, you just cant see it because the lack of contrast.

If the tape has adhesive remaining on the non-sticky side, no matter what color, it will wear them faster. As well as if you sweat a lot in the gloves.

doesn't wear it out faster, just makes it look grosser that's all.
Guy Lafleur used to put black tape on the blade (to make it harder for goalies to get a read) but used white on top of stick, so his hockey gloves wouldn't get all black sticky crap on them
