yeah, it's absolutely perfectly fine.
Your period isn't blood, it's blood and some other stuff.
http://www.kotex.com/na/talk/teen/girlthing/qa.asp
that may be a helpful website for you.
AND CONGRATULATIONS!
Your are now an offocially grown woman, cramps and all. Go have some chocolate or ice cream to celebrate.
:)
**Some first period advice too**
*avoid caffeine-it makes your cramps worse
*chocolate covered bananas-they have chemicals that will make you happy and help cramps (i'm not making this up it's actually true)
*a heating pack also helps with cramps
*Wear black underware-in case anything gets on it, you'll be able to wash it right out, and any leftover stuff won't show. (if you catch my drift)

My very first period was brownish spotting. It takes a little while for the body to develop more mature fertility cycles.

Yes it is supposed to be that way.
When I first got mine, it was in the middle of the night. I was sharing a bedroom with my cousin on vacation. I had to sneak out of the bedroom and into the bathroom... I didn't sneak out because I knew I had my period- I thought I was dying, literally. I was having trouble breathing and was really hot. All of a sudden when I had to go to be bathroom, I saw a brown dot on my underwear. Then of course I freaked out. I had no idea what it was and thought I was going to bleed to death.... But it all turned out good.
You have it good!

Yeah. It will probably be mostly brown goopy stuff your first one. It's super odd and gross looking, but it's totally normal. If it's all brown or if it's all red, it's fine and normal. Don't worry. The brown is just the lining of your uterus shedding.

Blood gets darker the "older" it is and when it reaches oxygen. The brighter the red, the "newer" it is. Nothing to worry about.

Yes, very normal. It's not like the blood you bleed from your veins. It's the lining of your cervix.

It's entirely normal. Color can shift even along the course of it, so don't worry about it :)
