Because the press in USA has declared it a "Viet Nam" ever since the day we started. This is NOT a war for oil. Al-Queda has promised to destroy the USA. This war has to be one so the 2 people above me can have the freedom to call Bush a dictator, otherwise Al-Queda will cut off their heads for Allah.

Because most of them see what a debacle it has become. We need to really begin a true War on Terror and stop being policemen in the middle of this civil war. If we want to stay in Iraq we need to head to the Western provinces where Al Queda is operating freely (funny, they weren't even there until after we blew the country wide open), and we need to attend more to Afghanistan where the Taliban is enjoying a huge surge of new recruits and new camps. Most of us have become painfully aware of the lies we were told to support going into Iraq. The day our President had to admit there was no connection to 9/11 was the day I finally withdrew my complete support from Bush's War. I support our troops and I hate terrorism. Our troops could be put to much better use and we could actually be hot on Al Queda's trail if The Decider would stop deciding and start listening.

Because there was no reason to invade Iraq therefore the president sent those troops to die or get lifelong injuries for no reason whatsoever. You do not show support for the troops by sending them to combat for no reason whatsoever.

When you send troops to battle you had better be right about the reasons for sending them and you had better have a workable strategy and the Bush administration has had neither.

The mission was to get bin Laden and al Qaida and they were not in Iraq. The failed policy of lashing out wildly like a little boy is not the same as having a foreign policy worthy of the troops mission. Because we invaded Iraq for no reason whatsoever, we have damaged our military in that we have demoralized them and we have stretched them far beyond their capability, now when we actually need them we do not have them.

It has been proven that the invasion of Iraq has helped the terrorists and their cause, making it less likely that we are able to execute the mission we sent Mr. Bush on, catching the 9/11 terrorists. Instead it has been proven that the Iraq war has caused more terrorism in the world.

And smearing actual American Heroes like Sen. Kerry is consistent with the GOP disregard for truth.

Why would anybody support that?

Yeah, let's not forget to look at what we did to their country too. This whole fiasco in Iraq was senseless from the beginning. What makes it worse, it seems there was very little actual planning for after Saddam was toppled. In four years we haven't managed to train enough Iraqis to take care of their own country? It's a never ending, moving mission which is never clear. After all the blunders, all the lost money, all the senseless deaths, why do some people still support this snafu?

Some Americans? How about 70%.

MOST Americans don't support the pointless war in Iraq. All Americans do however support the troops and the war on terror.

Most don´t because they don´t believe in Nation Building with American Troops and American tax dollars...Bush didn´t either and promised he wouldn´t in his first election campaign.

Operation Iraqi Freedom turned out to be an expensive and bloody mess and MOST Americans are tired of spending tax dollars on it.

You mean most not some. Over 60% say war was a mistake.

I don't support sending off people in the US military to accomplish something that isn't going to benefit the USA, sure getting rid of saddam was great, but was it worh the civilian, military casualties and the billions of wasted dollars to get rid of a guy that was no threat to us? no it wasn't

Are you asking why only 1 out of 4 Americans still support this criminal action? Because the brainwashing is wearing off? Because of the shame of Abu Graihb? Because it's stupid to impose democracy on people asking you to leave?

Because as Americans we have the right to our own opinions and to express them. Those people who disagree with our involvement in Iraq have that right. They have the right to be uninformed and to make decision based on emotion rather than rational thought.
