one of my older tiger barbs has started to lose color (he looks faded) quite dramatically..?

Question

his other tank mates do not seem to be suffering from the same problem.. is this due to his age? or is this an illness? and if so, any cures/remedies/suggestions?

Loss of color can be a sign of age, stress or disease. If this was very sudden (like over night) is probably isn't old age. Watch him very closely for any other signs of disease. Any odd behavior, strange lumps etc... It maybe a little temporary stress or it might be something more serious that would require your attention.
