I recently bought a used PC etower, tried to use the reload disk..followed the instructions but my emachine monitor that i am running now w/1998 emachine will not boot past post screen. i had the PC tower checked out at Best Buy's Geek Squad and they said the tower was fine but the reload disk was bad. i ordered a new one from the manufacturer followed instructions to the T and the same thing happens. at least after the screen goes blank i hear music. i guess it's like being put wait on hold. buy the way i did call The Geek Squad and was told to bring it back. can someone help to solve my problem? it was very difficult for me to get to geek squad in the first place. i am practically a shut in and i went to great lengths to get it there. i called all the numbers i could find to no avail. finally called best buy corp. was put on hold again forever On My Dime. is it possible that it could be the monitor even though it works fine with the tower i'm on now? the newer one has xp home

obviously your monitor works so your monitor is fine. You said your system posts which is good. does it beep? how many times.....that sometimes can help you norrow your search. Can you get to bios? My guess is that your video card is messed up. Geek Squad sucks........doesnt sound like it would be anything else.....if you need any help feel free to email me at Linuxsar201@yahoo.com

good luck

I would wipe (format) the HDD clean and install a fresh copy of XP on there.. bypassing the use of recovery cd altogether. Also, dont trust those so called geeks at best buys..to me they are just bunch of amateur. If i were ur neighbor, I can easily help u out.. but since I am not then u gonna take my advise for now. IF for some reason, it doesnt work still after that, then u know its ur HDD.. slowly dying.

Good luck!

verify to work out if yur pentium processor got here loose and make confident the lil lever or "lock" went into place. verify yur wires to make confident no longer something got here loose mutually as fixing. each and every so often the hot fan make take a lil extra potential from the potential cord and u can say rob potential from yur cd rom or confusing rigidity so as a protection characteristic, yur potential container with the fan doesnt start up. some computers the fan potential cord is linked to the potential cord used to hook up the confusing rigidity or CD Rom rigidity. make confident that's seperate meaning the potential cord for the fan is all with the help of itself and the cd rom and confusing rigidity wires are with the help of themselves.

Just to hazzard a guess, It might be your graphics card. I have seen cards that function fine in text mode, but choke when they switch into graphics mode. 1998, I wouldn't spend too much time on it.
