doesn't the government have the power to shut down websites? i'm wondering if it works like this: whoever pays the newspaper the most gets what he wants?

Our Constitution's First Amendment guarantees freedom of the press. One of the reasons was to keep the government in check. By having a free press the government can not conduct things in secret hiding things from the American people. If we start censoring the press then we will believe only what the government wants us to believe. Sadly, our press is censored under the so called rouse of national security. I am with Thomas Jefferson on this I would rather have a free press and no government, than a government and no free press.

it is all extremely censored. everything we see is censored. and for good reasons- most of the time. if some things wernt censored, kids now would be influenced to drugs, alchoihol and otherstuff. also on the news, it is up to the president of the company to tell what and what not to censor. someteimes, they censor information- creatiung propaganda. they do it so taht you can agree with them. dont be fooled. whenever you hear bad stuff on the news, always know that there are more than one side to a story and not just some one sided crap that the president of the broadcasting station wants to let you see. most internet articles are censored of full information, in fear of letting peopel know what is really going on. if you wnat to see real news articls, the most accurate source i have found is ft.com you should check it out, it has two sided information

No, I don't think they are censored by the GOVERNMENT, but I do think they are censored by their owners and stockholders. But considering the many, many things that have been leaked to and by the press, the many scandals exposed, the many mistakes brought to light, I can't see any evidence that the media is being controlled.

I think the correct term one might use is slanted towards one side or the other. That to me is just as bad as censorship, if you are going to report the news then report it as it is, not as someone would like to to think.

Sure is. If we were to see what is actually happening in Iraq the close-up and personal death in all its blood and gore, we wouldn't be in Iraq all that much longer.
