First, take a deep breath and relax. You can request a female doctor if that would make you feel more comfortable. If that isn't possible, you can ask that a female nurse or medical assistant be in the room with you. Remember, the doctor is a professional and the touching means nothing to them but as a medical procedure. Most doctors will talk to you about your medical history and will also make small talk with you to put you at ease before the exam even starts. You won't be entirely naked...they respect your modesty...you will wear a gown (and you can keep your socks on). :-)
I won't lie, the exam can be uncomfortable, but it doesn't hurt. It is important that you go, especially to get a pap smear.

Eh, firstly, if you have a 9-year old daughter, then you obviously have had to be naked in front of people before. It's not fun for anyone, it's just something you have to do for the benefit of your own health...like going to the dentist.
And who the heck suggested your 9 year old go? The only reason she should be going is if she is sexually active or there is a problem, otherwise she doesn't need to go.
Also, you can request a female ongyn, it is not uncommon (although I prefer my male gyno because he is really fast and professional)
Seriously, you are worried about a spectrum hurting when you have already given birth? I garuntee it's not going to hurt as bad as that!

Can't you request a woman gyno?
Just go anyway. If you're nervous, talk with the doctor about it first. They'll want to put you at ease.
But for god's sake, don't freak out about this in front of your daughter. You have to be the grown-up. Show her that there's nothing to be afraid of (cuz there's not!) even if you are secretly afraid.
I'm not a woman, but how much can this stuff hurt if millions of women do it all the time? You're probably just freaking out about the unknown. Call the doctor beforehand and talk. Call some female friends. Prepare somehow. Just don't go in there all afraid!

You should go and set a good example for your daughter. I don't like going either, it is uncomfortable and wierd having a person look at you down there. It feels super uncomfortable, but it's really quick! Don't go to a male gyno if you don't want to, find a female. It is always a good idea to get checked for cervical cancer. I hate going, but I would rather find out that I have a problem, rather than let it go too long and let it get to the point where nothing can be done about it. Always remember to relax.

Grow up. 9 yr olds DO NOT go for gyno visits. How did you have a child if you're afraid to do a pap smear? Get a life.

If you are that upset about having a guy gyno then switch to a woman. Every woman has to do this you are not the only one so suck it up and get over it. When you are done you can feel good that you have taken care of your health.

you've had a daughter? well then you already know what its like! and at 9 years old you daughter should not yet be going to a OBGyn. she's too young unless she's already had sex. I think if you have serious issues and are truly terrified of the doctor you might want to seek therapy. that isnt to say you cant be nervous to undress infront of strangers! but know this- they are doctors its their job- they see tons of breasts, vaginas, diseases, babys, you name it! its not like a ten year old boy seeing boobies for the first time- these people are professional. you might think of mentioning this to you doctor before the exam begins. if you are nervous about them touching you, ask to have a nurse present. and seriously, the pap and speculum- you've had a kid- this should be a piece of cake compared to that!!!!

I am not afraid of hamburger but sometimes a sausage scares the heck out of me and I retreat to my quiet little refuge here in the woods where I can eat a candy bar when the world gets to be TOO much.

Are you sure you have a nine year old? You write like a nine year old. I'm not surprised your scared of the doctor, you were obviously scared of your teachers.
Oh ya, take your daughter to the gyno. Let the doctor do your thinking for you.

its ok...it does not hurt at all. but you really should go just to make sure you are healthy. and the first time i went they found a problem...if i wouldent have gone i would have gotten sick. just make sure you try to stay relaxed or it might hurt a little. and my gyno is a guy too, i would rather a guy look at me than another girl
