I'm beginning to loathe mainstream/pop. I'd like sources of reviews and information to learn more about what's out there.

Hands down, the best music publications are MOJO and Select. They're both published in the UK and are amongst the most comprehensive music publications of all time. They review hundreds of new releases (of every genre imaginable) and have the best feature articles around. They also have a penchant for digging up incredibly rare, historical photos.

Because they're imports, they DO cost a lot more than American publications (usually $8-10 per issue) but you'll never waste your time with Spin or Rolling Stone again!

Depending on where you live, your local library may subscribe.
