Then why do they think it is ok for them to shove their views down our throats on this forum? This is in reference to answers to an earlier question I asked in this same category. I think they are a bunch of hypocrites.

The section is not the issue. Its the content of the questions. It sometimes sounds like they people to convince them about God. I think there are better ways to do that is all.

You don't have to come to this category to find these questions. For example this was the first question listed on the main page of all questions posted.
But, I agree. I don't think that ANYONE should shove their beliefs down any ones throats. No matter their religion or affiliation or belief.
*****************
Let's also remember that it's the religious and spiritual section. Not the Christian section (to those that seem to think that only Christians should be allowed in this section). As a matter of fact, I have yet to find a Christian only section on Y!A.
Some people just don't know how to present their views without it being argumentative. They are very defensive, and who really knows why. We can try to figure it out with some pseudo psychology, those who have no psychological background are the ones who do that the most. But there are so many different reasons why people try to shove their religion or belief down peoples throats. And when I see that, no matter what their beliefs are I tell them that they are wrong. That I am not required to think like they do.
The only truth we know is that we only have beliefs, not facts. Not even atheists have absolutes, only more evidence. But, those of us that happen to understand this are much more comfortable with everything we come across and believe.
I like to keep an open mind. But there are a few things I cannot believe. Like that there is no God. That God punishes people and is vengeful damning people to hell. But the one thing that I am sure of is that I will die and when I die I will get the answers then. Until then, all I have are beliefs.
Peace.

You are right and wrong. Yes, one should expect religious responses in this forum and sometimes the atheists get just as obnoxious. But it is SHOVED down our throats. How far can you drive before you see a church or a cross? How many TV networks are devoted exclusively to preaching one gospel or another? Schools and programs and scholarships and clubs that are exclusive to those that promote the religion. Think nest time you are talking to somebody that wears a cross or a star of David around their neck if religion isn't just a little in your face.

If you are Atheist, why bother shoving your views on anyone. If you don't believe there is a God, you must believe that we are all here by the power of some cosmic accident. We are just a bunch of meaningless matter. What purpose does your life have if you are not living for the purpose you were created? If you were not created then your life is meaningless. How can you create meaning for your life or anything else if you came from nothing and will soon return to nothing. Makes no sense to me.

Boo hoo. Atheists haven't tyrannized human civilization for thousands of years like religionists have.
It's called backlash. You wanna act like an oppressed minority? Stick around for a few millenia and let yourselves be tortured and killed for your beliefs. Then you can complain.
BTW, you have as much opportunity to "shove" your beliefs down people's throat here as the atheists. Just don't whine if people spit it back in your face.

both sides are hypocritical in this matter. anyone involved in any type of organized religion or organized group that doesnt believe in religion do nothing but want to shove their views onto other people to "save" them.
I'm starting to think we should impliment a series of classes to be added into school districts nation wide to teach our kids how to think for themselves so that most people dont end up like the people on here.

Hmmm, and the Reverand Ted Haggard led a clean and upstanding life. No hypocracy there at all.
Really now, atheists and agnostics are not out to convert anyone that I know of. Most have come to their beliefs after a lot of contemplation.

The 1st Amendment.
I have all the faith in the world that God is real, and if someone wants to hear about my beliefs I'll tell them.
Unfortunately there are many people on BOTH sides of this fight that try to force their beliefs on other people. Let's just agree to disagree and move on shall we?

I say it's a no win situation when talking religion or politics. Let everyone believe what they want, and don't try to force issues on others. Everyone is going to believe what they will.
