Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa was a real person (1486-1535). Mary Shelley mentions him in Frankenstein, as one of Viktor Frankenstein's influences.

Agrippa was interested in the "science" of occultism ... specifically, magic, the occult, astrology, and alchemy.

Modern scientists would not call any of these "sciences."

(More trivia I just learned ... Agrippa was also mentioned in Harry Potter.)
