Borje Salming, in happened in the 80's he was with the Toronto Maple Leafs , a scramble in front of his teams net, he fell down, a team mate pushed an opposing teams player, the player then lifted his leg to gain his balance and in turn slammed his foot down on Salmings face, it was quite gastly to see. He cut him from his forehead all the down to his chin. Over 300 stitches.

Although Plante was not the first NHL goalie known to wear a face mask (Montreal Maroons goaltender Clint Benedict had done so thirty years before), Plante introduced the mask as everyday equipment, which continues to this day.

But the answer to your question is: Borje Salming. Salming received 300 stitches in one game, when Gord Gallant slashed his face with his skateblade.
