There are 5 Russian women ranked in the top 10. There is 1 Russian man ranked in the top 20. Is it easier to advance as a woman?

Its not like the russians mens side is suffering they did just win the davis cup and while theres only 1 in the top 20, outside the top 20 sitting at 21 is Dima, 22 is Youzhny and 24 is Safin. So they are knocking on the door of being in the top 20.
As for why there is an influx of good russian women and less good russian men coming up I think its because its a sport women can be good at and make a living. If you were a russian parent and your child showed an athletic aptitude in something like cycling, sprinting, swimming or something of that ilk where there is little chance to make a life from unless you were one of the top 3-4 and even then you'd be at the mercy of your sport federation, wouldn't you push them to pick up a racquet and give it a shot. Especially knowing the success the kournikovas, sharapovas, petrovas etc have achieved. So if your potential best athletes are giving it a shot its just numbers, the more trying the more you'll find that can play and succeed. At the same time russian men have other options in sport to make money so less of their best athletes pick up tennis.

Russian women are good in tennis tour because they work since they was young girl. From what i see there are not many competitors in women tour except serena, mauresmo, hingis, and some europe women. The problem is that many women who are in the bottom are not enough train to beat top rank player in grand slams. All i see russian women are in top quaterfinal compare to other countries. Remeber on atp tour, It is the tough competition for all mens. i can name many list of mens but it is tough for russian guys to beat big players like federer, nadal, roddick, murray, fish, and etc... It is any day of tennis, anyone can suprise. Remeber Safin kick federer in austrilian open 2005. It was the best game of the century.

Well I think because that many Russian women have joined WTA and try looking at the top 100 women, and you will see billions of them! And maybe because their matches are shorter? Oh and maybe because men in tennis are just more competitive that somehow a lot of other countries are in the top 10?

actually both russian men and women are doing good at atp and wta tour..it just happened that men's tennis are more competitive this days as compare as before..lets face it... its sharapova era for the russian...during the 90's Kafelnikov is the one who makes the russian tennis player popular...then in the late 90's and early 2k...marat safin is very popular though there is anna kournikova..we can say that russians are doing good in the field of tennis
