The first player in the NFL to rush for 1000 yards in one season was Beattie Feathers in 1934. In 1934 while playing for the Chicago Bears, Feathers rushed for 1004 yards, passing the old record of 809 set the year before. This accomplishment was not matched until 1947 when Steve van Buren rushed for 1008 yards.
