Whether it is school work or a job I can never keep up with people, never be fast enough. I watch other people and don't know where they get all that energy. I do suffer from chronic depression and anxiety but am not sure if this has anything to do with it. I am also a very slow learner. Has anyone here heard of something like this?

I wouldn't worry.... I've been there and still there to some extent.... maybe not exactly for the same reasons as you. I do think it probably has a lot to do with the depression....... but there is nothing wrong with being slow..... that's who you are and God created you just the way He wanted to. God don't make junk...... you are perfect the way you are. I like to consider myself unique.

I have had co-workers like this. The depression and anxiety certainly don't help, but I doubt are responsible. Here is my observation: my former co-worker had this behavior -
- "drowned in the details" rather than operating in the larger picture
- needed to ask many questions regarding the connection of one detail to the next
- very intent on the purpose of each step rather than viewing the sequence as a whole
- was not able to make inferences such as "If I can do A and B, then I can do C which is very similar to them both"

My spouse reads a book at the same speed whether reading silently or aloud or just moving the lips. That's going to be a slow go, since lips don't move as fast as eyes-only.

My thought is that it's a matter of efficiency rather than energy. There are some things that I do and some tasks that I have observed done by others that appear effortless and they don't even break a sweat.

I think the depression probably plays a pretty big part , also by slow learner are you considered intellectually impaired or just learning disabled?

Each one of us has our own metabolic speed, had an aunt and a cousin who would just take their time and leave the rest of us waiting and waiting and waiting and it was just them. They didn't think about anyone being late , it was just all about them.

Perhaps you might mention this to your psychologist or psychiatrist and maybe it'll be something you can work on together to speed you up a little without medications .

Otherwise it may just be who you are and you'll have to learn to accept it and work with it.

Thomas K - I cannot vote yet, but I positively agree with your answer. I am fast at doing and learning things, but with some nitty stuff I am just as fast at forgetting. My husband is a slow learner but once it is in his brain he NEVER forgets.

PS. A little joke - The farmer has a labourer who is very lazy and very slow. He asks the labourer - "Can't you do anything fast?"
"Yes" replies the labourer - "I can get tired very fast"

no its is perfectly normal to be slower than some other people. its called learning disablility. whats more important here is that you dont compare yourself to other people. we are all differnt so whats fast to you might not be fast for others. just try to find somehthing that your good at and youll begin to feel better.

Yes, but if you aren't speedy, be meticulus -- there's a need for both.
