I heard a guy define himself as Metrosexual. He looks and talks like he's gay, but says he isn't. So is he in the closet or metrosexual? Or both?

Metrosexual is a term for men who take pride in their appearance, unlike those rugged, archaic types. It has nothing to do with the man's sexual orientation though I can see how that may have confused you.

Its affectation. Sexual display would be the word for it. People who are in "the closet" don't usually show any effeminate behaviour unless they are twinks or queens. But the latter examples are a highly visible minority in the gay community. One would sit next to a closet and believe them to be heterosexual. Often they have family and kids. Closet means that the person outwardly doesn't show their sexuality.

However Metrosexuals are overt. There arereasons for this. Its all about the hook. All about the pursuit of a mate.

To be fair there are two aspects to his behaviour. One. Many males show what is considered effeminate behaviour, and people confuse that with sexuality.

It can be frustrating in a larger population. I've fell for drop dead women with the flirting come hither look. Thus I came hither. Only to find out that they were after a female acquaintance of mine. I departed with a slither.

One simply cannot tell. And one should never judge a persons sexual preference by outward social behaviour. People are rather dynamic. I tend to try make friends no matter what their gender preference.

Often I find that people who are gay do make better friends than the classic macho or feminine human being. They tend to make the most loyal friends. Put yourself in their place. With most of society rejecting them for a simple intimate preference, they accept you for who you are if you return the same attitude.

Take a persons word for it. If they lie. They are afraid. Its not a big lie.

If they are telling the truth, this is simply an affectation. While homosexual, bisexual, and heterosexual are generic definitions related to human biology, Metrosexual is an invented catchy term. In the sixties, they called it Hippy. Later it was Punk. Then it was grunge. Later it was Goth, Oh and Yuppie (yuck) and so on.

That person is trying to get a girl (or guy) in other words. Its the schtick. And it works.

No. "Metrosexual" is just a new term invented to express the idea of a straight man who cares about his appearance and is in touch with his feelings. It's rather ridiculous in my opinion, because it has nothing to do with sexual orientation, so the term just confuses people. There are many straight men who seem gay if you look at stereotypes about appearance and speech, but this isn't very accurate. It's also not accurate to say that they're in the closet for acting in a "gay" way - many gays don't fit stereotypes and seem perfectly masculine and "heterosexual" in behavior, so why can't straight men be the same way? So, in short, I'd say he's not in the closet. He's also probably not bi - I've never heard the term used to mean bisexual, and I'm bi. Maybe some people use it that way, I'm just not familiar with it. There's a small chance he's in the closet, but there's also just as much of a chance that the perfectly macho weight lifter at the gym is gay.

Being Metrosexual does not mean that the person is a "closeted" gay... however in some cases it does.

Being Metro just means you pay more attention to the way you look; rather than acting like some Alpha Male you are more likely filling the role of the "pretty boy:"

My friend is Metrosexual to the extreme. Completely comfortable with his sexuality and he loves girls. He got kissed by a gay friend of his before and it really did nothing for him. And I believe that it did nothing for him too, cause there is no point for him to lie to his bi friend.

Metro = Pretty Boys (may they be straight or a denying-gay)

NO - metrosexual is NOT the same thing as closet homosexual, you can't be both. Metrosexual, by definition, is a heterosexual/straight man who enjoys the fashion/grooming habits of women and/or gay men. For example, they enjoy manicures, spa treatments, designer clothing, etc.

Metrosexual refers to a straight guy that is more in touch with his feminine side.

straight man that does things that are usually considered "more gay" like...going to the oprha, ballet, musical, poetry readings, ...
they tend to keep their bodies is good shape and dress with more style

No, metrosexual means like you have all the gay characteristics (i.e. talking with a lisp, paying alot of attention to thier hair and skin,) without actually being attracted to men. Being "in the closet" means you are gay but you haven't told anybody yet.

No

Metrosexual is a stupid term invented by fat, slobby straight dudes to describe a dude who washes his body, stays physically fit and knows how to wear a proper suit.

Go figure.
