i know he was a really good coach for the raiders but there were plenty other coaches at the time as great as him. but why him?

hes stayed in the sport far past his coaching carrer ther is alot of name recognition as well

When EA sports wanted to make a football game. They contacted John Madden and asked if he would like to help them make a football game. At the time John Madden was the Monday Night Football announcer. John said that he would be involved only if EA sports made sure that there was 11 players on each side of the ball. John also had a hand in designing the play books. Now till this day the game is now called Madden Football because it is recognized around the world.

John Madden had input to the design of the game which without that game it may not of been as popular as it is. I know I like it. He did a good job with this software

His popularity with the league and its fans kept his name on the cover through the 1990's, then when EA Sports bought the exclusive rights to the NFL for video gaming the word association with "Madden" and NFL video games were very synonymous.

Luck!, Madden is not a software designer and trust me popularity of his name did not push sales. EA Sports was very innovative in their games. Luckily they stuck with him, I am sure fans across the country would love to play Lombardi Football every night.

They just used his name. E.A. had made their football game PRIOR to Madden, and he didn't want his name on a game at that time. As the graphics and game got better he agreed to have his name on it.

Because the EA team came to him in 1989 and offered an endorsement based upon his well known history as coach and commentator.

Because he is a easy recognized character in sports..he is also an announcer. He is like a see-er all in football.
