thats how people are nowadays, too many people just dont care about each other, dont let it dishearten you, thankfully most people are genuine and nice and will help others, theres just a small ignorant selfish minority that spread disporportiate misery around. The only saving grace is that they do get their just desserts, the shame is we normal prople arent always around to see it.

Unfortunately wing mirror instances are considered 50/50.Even if you are parked the other driver can argue that your vehicle was protruding into his carriageway and his mirror was broken by your car. As neither parties can prove who's to fault even with the correct details it would take ages to get a settlement and usually ends up "knock for knock".
This is one of insurances grey areas and a case where you normally have to swallow.

Were you properly parked? Did you get the license information from the car that hit you, and make a report to the police? If you answered no to any of these questions, then that is why you have to pay for it yourself.

For the same reason that someone could drop a stone onto my windscreen from a bridge and cost me £60 and almost kill me. My insurance company no longer give that free. If I could have caught the person I would have fractured his skull.
